What is StemSave?
StemSave is a technology that involves the removal and cryopreservation of stem cells found in the pulp of healthy teeth. Parents may choose to use StemSave in conjunction with planned pediatric tooth extractions, including wisdom tooth removal. Preserving and storing dental stem cells gives you and your family the option to choose the most advanced medical treatments available in the years ahead, when you may need them most.
How does StemSave work?
StemSave allows you to store a child’s dental stem cells in just a few simple steps. If your child has a baby tooth that comes loose, or your pediatric dentist recommends that your child has his or her wisdom teeth removed, you are provided with an opportunity to secure stem cells through StemSave. You will first need to enroll in StemSave through the company’s website. Once complete, StemSave will send a notification of your enrollment along with a personalized recovery and transport kit delivered directly to Park View Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics. Next, you will schedule the procedure with our office.
On the day of your child’s planned dental procedure, our pediatric dentists will recover the tooth or teeth, placing them in the specialized transport container, which protects the stem cells while in transit to the StemSave laboratory.
StemSave’s laboratory removes the cells from inside the teeth and assesses whether the cells are viable prior to cryopreservation. Cells that are not viable will not be stored. Once stem cells are cryogenically preserved, patients will receive a notification from StemSave. Stem cells will be securely stored and monitored until needed.
